Your report motivates me Allieoop.
I'm crossing my fingers for mid-March, my next trek out to Alabam. I've the new .17Winchester Super Mag to try out as a short range coyote bush (primarily groundhog) rifle! It'll be my 1st bonified coyote hunt. I've watched a bunch of coyote youtube and TV predator shows, but rarely do they show hunting in the thick brush. All I've seen has been field edges or high plains sage desert.
I'll slip up some chilly morning and lop a few basic openings along the animal paths. Plan to set up a salt block and trail cam where some deer bed down as well. Gotta try field/forest edge, deep forest, and a high tree blind along the creek. Mojo decoy, JohnStewart & Foxpro callers, plus some baiting. Gotta trick some doggies.
Last October I was sighting in my small pcp air rifle and some yotes came trotting along 60 yds across the creek. Caught the faintest of a few glimpses of moving wild dog or yote. Leaves are off the tree now and have 60yds visiability in a few places.
Keep the stories of calling coyotes from in the brush a comin'!
