I'm going to climb out on a limb here and make an assumption. My ASSumption is that the barrel was made by the TC custom shop for the Massachusetts market. That's how the .56 smoothbore came to be. Mass would not allow ANY rifled barrels to be used for deer so Thompson Center being in the neighboring state of New Hampshire built the .56 smoothbore Renegade specifically for the Massachusetts hunting market. It could be that someone moved from a state that allowed the rifled TC Hawken they owned to Mass and ordered the barrel from the TC custom shop so they could drop it into their stock and keep hunting.
