I always load exactly the same load for both deer and elk. I can't use sabots in CO so I shoot a 425 gr Buffalo Bullet over 110 grs of FFG in my .54 Renegade. That load is accurate and untracks both deer and elk really well. I kind of go by the theory that is it will kill an elk, it will kill a deer. The reverse isn't always true.
