If a gun will kill a deer, it will work for hogs. They ain't bullet proof but the big boars can have a pretty thick gristle plate over the front qtrs. So, the actual caliber isn't too important, but using a good bullet is. If the bullet doesn't get to the vitals, nothing else matters. I'm not sure how many different calibers I've used on hogs but it is quite a few.
That being said, I like big bores and I often find myself grabbing my 450 Marlin. I don't necessarily need that level of power but I like the gun, it carries well and since mine is a guide gun it is pretty short which makes it handy in thick cover. But it isn't any better or worse than 30 other calibers that come to mind.
