I have decades using a 30-30 on elk, and not one of them went out of sight when shot.
If the only way you can hunt is to glass all day, and take long shots. Then use your magnums like the magazines have brain washed you into believing you need.
A 30-30 is a powerhouse compared to a muzzleloader shooting a round ball, and they take plenty of elk every year.
Yep it always amazes me how so many ppl call the 30-30 an underpowered brush gun. I know from use it will kill any big game there is provided you are a hunter and get in close and shoot it in the right spot, even on the plains and open desert.
