You definitely did the right thing. I' ll relate an experiance earlier this year. Had about a 130' s class buck come by my stand on 3 consecutive hunts (so most likely he will return). I made a bad shot on him and was close to being sick over it. I went in to a depression for about a month. It was bad, my fiance was getting annoyed and i felt horrible. The deer lived and 2 weeks later got hit by a car but I felt horrible at having wounded him. And that was a 20 yd broadside shot that I messed up. Imagine a shot that wasn' t perfect, how you could have messed it up.
