Default RE: 1st Archery Moose!!!

Congrats! Great looking bull for your first archery moose! I' ve shot two bulls with the bow now. The first was shot using 550 grain aluminum arrows and 125 grain broadheads. Fairly heavy arrow but it failed to penetrate. Of course it hit the shoulder blade, so what can you expect, heavy arrow or not. The second moose, first and only archery killed moose, was shot with 450 grains of beman carbon and a 125 grain muzzy 3 blade. I nearly got a full pass through and busted ribs on entry and exit. This just proves that shot placement is just as, or more important than using a heavy arrow.

We are going to have to defend our rights to use lighter weight arrows on game this coming year. There are proposals into the board of game to restrict arrow weights to much higher standards for larger size animals like black bears and caribou, and much higher standards for larger game like moose and grizzlies.
