Is this something a gunsmith could do?
Hello all. I have a question for the gunsmiths. I have a 581 series Mini-14, it is the more recent Ranch rifle with a rubber butt pad and wood stock. I would like to replace the rubber butt pad with a checkered steel plate similar to what was used by the M1/M1a rifles - no hollowing out of the stock for cleaning supplies just a checkered plate.
Looking around online I have not found anyone who sells this kind of butt plate for this series of rifle, is this something that could be fashioned by a gunsmith?
If it is something a gunsmith could make a "guess-timate" on the price would be appreciated.
