Using just the melted button on the end of the material will work its true. But I've seen them wear and pull through the knot and pulling back even 50 lb and having the knot come out and hitting yourself in the face is not much fun. Not to mention the danger of an arrow taking off to parts unknown. A melted button after an overhand knot on each end of the D loop knot will never come out.
