one of the most important things i like to do in the summer is get out with the binoculars and just look up. I like too check out the oak flats and see which trees are carrying the most mast.. Its still a little early for that around here but i dont know what your situation would be up that way.
One other sign that I believe is a pretty easy way to pattern deer for early season is to find a creek and walk the edge lookin for good crossings. Deer will go a good distance out of their way to find an easy creek crossing.
