I am from Saskatchewan and deer rifle season only opened yesterday for the northern part of the province, for the rest of the province it opens on the 17th. While Bow and ML are come and gone, this year it looks to be a good year for deer numbers and bucks, a warm weather winter trend has favoured deer in this province for a couple of years. As to this year the rubs are evident and rut is approaching for whitetails. Next week should be prime for the chase phase in the north, as peak rut should fire up around the 13-17 depending on where he is headed. The weather has been extremely cold this past week(-30C with windchill and getting into the -20 range at night for core temp), yes we have some snow on the ground and more is forecasted. However the long term forecast(next week) shows it will regain back to normals just above zero and in the north right around zero with chance of snow or rain(if you can believe the forecaster over a few hours

). All in all he should have a good trip and the weather shouldn' t be a factor anything from around zero will not happer movements or daytime activity levels for this time of year. With the cold snap happening the end of last week the deer will be accustom to that and back on the move it should happen to stay cold. Just tell him to pack for everything and enjoy his trip! My whitetail hunting with the rifle is on hold until the 17th, as i am chasing Muley' s for the next couple of weeks.
In the future if you have specific questions about an area or anything else it is best to post a question and have those reply to it. Their aren' t that many who are from this neck of the woods on here and they may reply if they see something that pertains to the area...just a suggestion!
