Last year I thought the birds were done and right in the middle of June I saw a tom with three hens go running.. They started last year a lot earlier as well. I guess you just never know.

Update of this morning is the same old song and dance.. Close but no cigar. I saw 8 hens while I was traveling up threw that area today. Also a bird this morning in thick fog so I could not tell whether it was a hen or a tom. On the way back I swung out to another area on those lines. I had the jeep this time and decided to walk about 40 yards to see in any signs were there. I looked down over the ridge I was standing on and wouldn't you know it. A Tom and a hen right below me with my shotgun setting in the jeep.. OUCH!!, That one hurt I snuck back to the Jeep and grab the shotgun loaded it up and grab my box caller. I tried to sneak back and bumped my box caller. When I got there the hen was still wandering around I stayed put and looked for the tom. I see him running around 60 yards away and all at once he flies off?? I have no idea why he flew but, the hen goes walking back into the woods on the opposite side then where the tom flew. I am not sure if he will be back in the morning or not but, I decided to move my blind into there and send a couple of quick calls as I leave. Hopefully he will be back in the morning and give that chance to bust a cap on him..

Updated again, This time I moved my blind in there and it will most definitely be staying there until either I tag out or the end of turkeys season which ever happens first.. While setting up my blind I noticed an awful lot of fresh droppings along with a few from a bear. While I have no idea why that tom flew from there I do feel quite confident he will be back. If not another tom will be moving in. Also on the way up I saw at least 7 or 8 or baby birds in like a circle in the middle of the road. I am not sure if they were turkeys or grouse. I am thinking that they were young grouse as they were still very small. It was pretty cool to see that.
Good Luck everyone that is still out there hunting for them.
