We got here in Ohio at 4:30 yesterday morning and jumped right into the woods. We got right on two birds at daylight that were roosted about 30 yards apart. They worked but hung halfway down opposite hillside. We later found the old dreaded fence line. After that spent most of the day getting to know the property.
We split up this morning, each having our own place in mind. Naturally I picked the prettiest looking spot with no birds gobbling. Skirting pasture edges I went trying to find a bird to work, but the birds had the hush mouth. After an hour of walking and trying to strike a gobble with no luck, I hear a turkey fly down while I was walking! I hit the ground and got my gun up. I could hear the bird just under the hill but I was out in the wide open! I yelped and crossed my fingers that the bird was even a gobbler....nothing. I thought it had left then noticed movement to my left, there he was topping the hill and looking right at me! He tucked his wings up on his back and I swung and shot him at 25yds!
Sometimes, not often......but sometimes, it just pays to be lucky! Lol!!
