Default Stuck in Austin & Halleck Hell (long)

If you think you have ever dealt with a company with quality control issues, you haven’t seen anything yet. On September 7th I ordered a model 320blu rifle from Austin & Halleck. It was just over two weeks to receive my rifle, Gun number ONE. Upon checking it I found the front sight sitting off to the right of center and the receiver scope mount holes drilled to the left of center. Well crap, how did they let this one get by? Called AH and talked with Gretchen. Great lady, very helpful. She said send in the rifle and they would ship another. One week UPS ground to them. One week waiting for shipment, One week UPS ground back to me. I now have gun number TWO. Opened the box, front sight straight, receiver scope mount holes sitting off to the left. I could not believe they sent me another rifle drilled off center. Called Gretchen who let me talk with Ray Crow. Nice guy, very helpful and apologetic. Ray advised he would over night me a hand picked rifle and assured me I would be happy. I eagerly awaited the dawn The rifle arrived. I now have gun number THREE. I opened the package and could not believe my eyes. Front sight straight, Receiver drilled right down the center, perfect. Almost. There was however one small problem. On the side of the receiver the rifle had stamped on it Austin & Halleck WESTON MISSOURI. I could not believe they had sent me a left over WM rifle. Back on the phone with Gretchen, Ray was in meetings and could not take my call (no kidding). By this time I am about to stroke out. I am now having very grievous feelings about this company, their rifle and what they must think of me as a customer. I told Gretchen there was no way I wanted a Missouri rifle, that I had ordered a rifle from Provo and I wanted a rifle made in Provo. Any way, Gretchen was great as usual. Over nighted me another rifle, gun number FOUR. They are spending a fortune on Fed Ex over night charges. I think I have more rifles at my house now than they do. I received the latest offering and can hardly contain myself waiting to see this thing. Well, opened the box and checked it out. Front sight straight, scope mount receiver holes right down the middle, Provo Utah stamped on the side of the receiver, great. But wait, I hear a rattle. Upon closer inspection I find that the under lug that holds the ram rod is very loose. No problem, I can just tighten the screws and everything will be fine. Yea right! Screw number one closest to the front sight bottomed out can’t tighten any more. Screw Number two closest to the receiver, cracked in half at the slot, half of the top of the screw is gone. Can’t do any thing with this one. Either the screws are to long or the screw holes were drilled to shallow or both. I have enough parts with the three rifles I have here at home to build a rifle but I can’t get out the broken screw. Well after all this I have had it. These people can’t seem to get it right. I have no faith In Austin & Halleck. Any company that can’t get it right after four chances is not long for this world as far as I am concerned. It is a crying shame because this rifle is absolutely beautiful. They say it is the Weatherby of muzzle loaders. I know Roy Weatherby must be spinning in his grave every time they send one of these crap rifles out. Well I called Gretchen back and she said I would get my money back. I asked that when the credit was posted to my credit card would she give me an e-mail to confirm. I shipped back the three rifles that I had and waited two weeks for the credit conformation, nothing. I again called Gretchen and she told me it would be confirmed tomorrow, (I’m glad I called). Well today 11/03/03 I received in the mail the credit invoice. The total credit is for the rifle, the rings and the scope mount that I purchased. They did not give me credit for the shipping That I paid for on the first crap rifle they sent. That was the absolute last straw. I was not going to say anything about what happened to me, but for that little bit of shipping I am now telling anyone who will listen what I went through with Austin & Halleck. It is really true in this world, buyer beware.
