Let me be clear, that I think someone that is an
excellent caller, that can use various box calls,
slate/glass or aluminum pot calls, maybe wingbone
and especially is good with a mouth call is the
real Turkey hunter. I freely admit I'm not that
person, especially because I just can't seem
to get a mouth call to work.
I am relatively new to Turkey hunting and I do
get a major "kick" out of it. I'll use whatever call
is legal and helps me bring a bird in close enough
to kill cleanly. Most of my Turkeys have been
taken with a 20 guage. I think the real fun is getting
them in close. Most of my Turkeys have been taken
under 30 yards and my goal with a 20 is not to
shoot beyond 40 yards. I have finally broken down
and gotten a 12 guage this year but my goal will
still be to get birds within 40 yards.
In summary an electronic call is definitely not
equal to an excellent Turkey caller.
