If it gets too cold, I put on my rabbit fur insulated hat I purchased at GUM department store (the people's store) in Moscow (and we are not talking Idaho) When I traveled the Soviet Union. I am sure you have all seen them. You can untie the top and the fur sides comes down over your ears. This is for when I snow blow and the wind blows the snow mist back in your face.

Most the time my Kromer takes care of the cold. It too can handle very cold weather being an insulated wool hat. Actually if you are active outside it is almost too warm. That and my Sorel Dominater -100 below boots, and my parka and we are ready for about anything.

I tried the polar hoods. In fact I have one I use when I ride snow machine because it blocks the wind so well. But it makes my head itch like crazy for some reason. So if I am just outside in bitter cold, the Kromer and then I lift and zip up the extended neck on my parka so it goes just under my nose, and I am good to go.
