Ruger, Marlin, or Savage. You cant go wrong with any of those. I am partial to the Savage personally. Steer clear of the Savage Axis or Savage Edge unless you dont mind a terrible trigger. Spend the extra money and get a Savage with the Accutrigger. Timmney makes a aftermarket trigger for the Edge, Axis but that is another $100 on top of a $350 rifle. Cheaper in the long run to buy a Savage with a Accutrigger. I have seen Ruger Americans for as low as $319 brand new, that is a real good deal for a rifle as good as the Ruger.
