On the most budget friendly end, I'd go to a store and handle the Ruger American, Marlin XL, and Savage Axis and buy whichever the one feels good and fits you best. (the Ruger is a bit more expensive than the other 2 -- I'm partial to Savages myself). If you can afford to go up a little bit ($100 or so), I'd do the same thing with the Savage 11 / 111 series and the Weatherby Vanguard 2.
