A little more info would help...What are you putting it on? Rifle or slug gun? Your expected shooting range?

Either way I would go Leupold VX-II no question if your looking for a decently priced, good quality scope. You would fair just fine going with a Nikon as well. I'm partial to Leupold though. The matte black 3-9 is at your upper limit at $299.99. I have this on my slug gun, and my muzzleloader and absolutely love it.
