Are you useing a correct sight picture? Is the peep sight installed correctly and securely? I' m not trying to insult you with these questions but you should be able to hit paper at the ranges you are shooting. It sounds like a basic but serious flaw with either the sights or target acquisition.

If you really want to scope it then a 2x7 would probably be just about perfect.
