I was busy tracking a doe this year and my light started to dim on me. Nothing worse then being in the woods with no light. It really gets dark out there. I should have had a backup, but didn't. I was lucky that the light didn't go out completely!
So now I carry a second light in my pack. I don't like dark. It is scarry!!!
I carry two flashlights. One is a small pencil type LED and the other is a mini mag light. I also carry extra batteries because the ones that fit the mini mag also fit my GPS. I can tell you from experience, being caught out in the middle of a alder cedar bog in darkness is not only a long night but dangerous to try and walk out. With no light you risk serious ankle injury and walking in circles (again voice of experience) with no light and compass.
Something else I carry. Make several small candles out of #11 cap tins. If you ever get caught out, light that candle. It gives a little light and makes fire starting in damp environments a whole lot easier. Also I vacuum seal three books of matches I carry. Vacuum sealed they are safe to carry, no oxygen no fire, and are fresh as the day you sealed them.
