Was there any places where it looked like he bedded and there were pools or patches of blood? This hit sounds like the hit my dad put on a buck last year. My dad hit in front of the shoulders and we had good blood for a mile before he got to land we could not go on.. This deer is still alive today. If you hit in front of the shoulder and the deer was broad side or quartering away i believe he will live. If he was quartering to you at all then there is a chance he is dead. Good Luck.
