When I shot rifle competition we used a front sight black that came in an aerosol can. The stuff was light powder and odorless. I am sure you can still buy it. As a substitute you can smoke the blades with a candle.

Regardless of what substance you use, you will have to do it when you load. Otherwise, the foam in the quiver will wipe the blades clean.
