Poop sniffing does
My buddy and I were at the cabin hunting last weekend. In between morning and afternoon hunts, we both gave birth to baby ruth' s on the portable commode we moved from the trailer site, since the bathrooms, and water for that matter, won' t be installed for a year or more. Anyway, we were out front talking when we heard footfalls in the leaves on the other side of the cabin. Three does were approaching, and took interest in the commode, sniffing it and moving in cautiously. I tried to film my buddy getting a bowshot at one as they sauntered through, but they came through too far back in the woods. Seems to me they were more curious than panicked by the poo. I firmly believe that certain smells can either draw curiousity or fear, depending on the deer' s demeanor. These hadn' t received hunting pressure and were more likely curious. If it were a month later, it might be a different story...
