Default Recurve poundage

I need a little help. I am surely not an expert on traditional archery gear.

A friend asked me today if I can do anything to lessen the poundage of his recurve? He said that it is 65lbs at 29" draw.
Is there any way to decease the weight or should he just start looking for different recurve. It was his uncles recurve, so it was handed down to him.
I took a guess and told him that I believe that string length may change the weight but that I was not sure. Sorry I do not have much info on the bow only that it is a one piece wood bow.

I appreciate the help in advance.
