Default Practice with the Back-Up

The smoke from the rifle barrel indicates the bullet is on the way.

The Video

This morning i could have stood home and dealt with some chores, but it was so cool at the house, i couldn't pass up a chance to shoot a rifle. It was so cool at 4000' to 4900' i had to run the heater in the truck. The 45 caliber disc elite came with, and it was loaded with 115g BH, 200g sst, Harvester sabot, W209 primer. Some may recall i have endeavored to shoot more 'healthy', and have steered away from Cheez-it boxes. Perceptive readers may notice the target this morning was a Cheez-it box. Just so you know, i don't buy the groceries here, and the Cheez-it box was in the pantry new and full, but became empty.

The shot shown was taken from the ground behind the truck. The bipod was fully closed. It was hard to get steady sitting on the ground utilizing the bipod. I kept wanting to jerk the trigger. It took me awhile to figure out how to become steady. What i did was move my left knee behind the left leg of the bipod, and brace the bipod leg on the knee. It kinda helped steady things, and i was able to squeeze the trigger. The video reveals it took the bullet about 1/3 second to fly the 220 or so yard to the target.

The sst vaporized the target. The first photo of the hit box was taken at near the instant of impact. The second photo was taken 1/30 second later. The rifle and i didn't get much practice; one shot is all.

The last photo was taken 5 seconds after impact. Note the water vapor is still in the air and drifting left in front of the camera, whereas the smoke from the rifle is drifting the opposite direction. Note the smucked box just lying right there. Shooting cardboard boxes instead of plastic bottles sure makes clean-up easier.

Whilst collecting the box, i noticed a bullet on the ground about 5' away. It had been there for awhile and was certainly not the one that just smucked the box, but it is an sst. It may have been uncovered by today's shot. It weighs 159.2g after i took my toothbrush, and scrubbed most of the dirt off of it.
