Flounder, it has a lever on the side to adjust the speed - a really nice feature. Move the lever up and down and vary the speed from 500 to 3,000 RPM. A digital display screen shows the speed. It also has a laser feature that projects an X on the work piece and a 15 watt light that shines down on the work area. Its only fault is it is a little on the noisy side at some speeds, probably because of the way the belt transmission changes the belt to different pulleys when the speed is adjusted with the lever.
