Dave, the gun comes with a nylon brush (I don't use it becuase I have a larger one) to clean the face of the plug. Just spray black powder cleaner on the face and brush the fouling off. This gun is the easiest muzzleloader I've cleaned. No blow back gets into the guts of the rifle.
