Took an old (6-7 yo) 196 hanging weight whitetail buck with a Marlin 336 shooting 200gr Federals last fall. Range was about 80 yards. From a treestand quartering away, old boy hit the ground like a rock. I have carried a .35 rem in the woods for the 35 years I have hunted and have taken a few deer with it. Longest shot was 120 yards w/ irons, but old eyes demand a Weaver fixed 4X these days. I hunt exclusively in the green mountains, but if I were to hunt anywhere else in the world, I would not feel outgunned with a .35 Rem and the right cartridge in the chamber
