Look at it this way. You are only going to shoot one or two shots when you turkey hunt each Spring, so why not go with the best the gun will shoot. I have a Model 1200 Winchester I bought in 1967 and it's got a 2 3/4" chamber. I use the Winchester Extended Range #5 or #6s because of the pattern and number of shot they produce in my gun at 40 yards. I'm on my last couple shells and will probably have to buy another box this year, but may just use my #5 pheasant loads because they are about as good.
