Whitehall area good around river bottom for whitetails but most of it private property. If your going to be here for awhile make sure to get Montana drivers license asap. Must be resident for 6 months to purchase mt resident hunting tags. FYI. Most public land down low out of the mountains gets hit hard during general rifle season. Expect to see anywhere from 2 to 15 other hunters out there with you on any given day. Archery season not quite as bad. Unfortunately Montana has no blackpowder only season. A few weapons restricted areas that allow earlier blackpowder hunting at same time as archery. Good luck
