To me it sounds like you are stuck on the model of rifle rather than the caliber. I can't image the 243 or the 7mm RUM weighing that much more than than this Rem. Mountain rifle; unless they are target. For me I would rather take four pounds from my gut than worry too much about an extra two pounds on the rifle. And of course, these two calibers you already have are more than plenty; 243 for deer/sheep/goat/antelope and the 7mm RUM for others for larger deer (mule, caribou, elk, moose) and even some of the larger critters (grizzly and large black bear).

Ultimately, all this logic means nothing if a person just "wants" a new rifle. Sometimes I buy stuff not because it makes such good financial sense but because I "want" it.
