If i was hunting shelter belts then the same would apply to me. right now the deer won't go near a shelterbelt. They know they get ambushed in there so they prefer to stay in the open , with at least a 1000 yards all around. Then they run when the see something. makes it a little more difficult. Thats why during rifle season I like my scoped inline.
you can sometimes belly crawl to within a couple hundred yards but it's hard to get real close. I did get to within 25 yards of some Muleys today but didnt shoot one .But they were in some coneflowers and thought they couldnt be seen I guess. They were the dumbest deer I've seen in a long time.

What you cant see in the last picture is a herd of deer about a 1000 yards out in the middle of the field.
So I feel that practicing to shoot longer ranges is a good thing where i live. I'm sure Ron feels the same way since he is hunting the prairie this year. I do admit that I get plenty of deer close enough ,but this way I dont have to work as hard for
every deer. I save my stalking for bow and muzzy season ,or early season when the shelterbelts are still a deer haven.
Seriously for a minute. I'd give up hunting if that was all that was available. I know some guys like it, but I need trees.
