Another opinion. The 260 Rem. is a very good choice for deer sized game. However, it is not a popular round and factory ammo is not usually readily available. The only first hand experience I have with this round is on one mule deer hunt. A kid in our group dropped a fine mule deer buck at about 225 yards using a 260 Rem. and a hand loaded round .... 140 gr. Partition. I often use a 6.5x55 SE which has about same ballistic characteristics as the 260 Rem. It does fine on deer and feral hogs ..... out to as far as my shots are usually clear .... about 200 yards. The Model 700 has been around for decades and is considered to be a good design.
