Finally got to shoot the Mountaineer at something!! Our muzzy season opened yesterday and I got lucky and connected on this main frame 8 with a 2 inch drop tine, yes I said drop instead of kicker, because it is my first with a drop!

Any rate, it was about 5 pm last night and I was hunting a winter wheat field and it filled up with deer. I had this buck and a couple others in it. I was using my Mountaineer with a Vortex Viper HS 2.5x10x44 scope, a 300 gr Lehigh and 120gr of BH 209. The deer was staying about 225 to 250 yards out, I felt that I could make this shot so I tried. To make a long story short, I must have shot right under him because I missed!! Not good!! Deer went everywhere for there was 6 does in it along with 3 bucks. So I quickly started to reload, as I was doing this, they settled down as well in the field, not knowing what went on. Well I look up and don't see the deer that I'm after, I get reloaded and there he is this time at about 150 yards, he actually got a lot closer and I know that I can make this shot with no problem. I put it on him again and this time he wasn't so lucky!!

He went about 50 yards and went down in a grown up crp/brial field. But I could see him. I again reloaded and started that way for it was getting dark. As I was walking I could hear something like the deer was coughing, great I thought, he is filling up with blood, so I quickly went into the grown up field and walked right up to him. He was down but his head was bobbing, so I put another one in him not taking any chances. He is not a bad little deer, I know I'm tickled with him and really love my Mountaineer!!! I will say this, I didn't get great blood with the Lehigh this time, but what it done on the inside of this deer was tremendous, I didn't have to put the second into him but was just very cautions. It done the job on the inside and I guess that is what really counts.
