Default Ghost Ring with Wings for Marlin Guide Gun 45-70

First Post:

I have a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 and want to get a set of XS Ghost Rings for it. I was going to get the standard set then noticed they also have a set with wings to help protect the rear sight.

I would like to know what you guys think of the standard XS Ghost Rings VS the Winged XS Ghost Rings ???

I am not hard on my stuff and always take care of it. Money is not the issue either as the extra $30 is cheaper than buying a new one should it get broken by accident. I like things that are super heavy duty.

My main concern is: Does the Wings distort the sight picture ??? I have shot a bow and had a peep sight and when in full draw, your eye came naturally to the peep sight. I am sure the Ghost Ring on the Marlin is similar in its standard form. For those out there that have the Winged version, does it distort the sight picture in any way ???

The gun is going to be used for primarily rainy weather as after a rainly monday during the PA deer season that just closed, a fogged scope cost me a huge buck that was 20 yds away. With open sights or the ghost rings, I would be posting his picture instead.

Let me know what you guys think for those that have both, or have tried both, or that have the winged ghost ring ???

Many Thanks In Advance
