whitetails need water
Hello,
I live and own hunting land here in central minnesota, during the early to late fall, it isn't uncommon to observe a dozen or more deer feeding in the fields ( corn, soybeans and alfalfa ) I also have Oaks trees with plenty of acorns, good bedding areas and plenty of water. but it seems that as soon as we get a hard freeze and all the water turns to ice. the deer vanish. this year we have no snow at this time, and I can only guess that the deer have moved to an area that has open water ( creek or river ). I know that they haven't just gone noctural, because my game cameras aren't getting many deer pics either, also, there is little to no hunting pressure so I don't think thats the reason. Do any of you have any other explanation why the deer could have left ? Thanks
