As far as I have read, there are three, maybe less, recommended unloading procedures (short of shooting):
1. Pull the ball with worm or scree (dunno if a sabot will let go of the bullet)
2. Submerge the charge (killing it with water), then disassemble
3. C02 dischargers ?? (used to be around, but I have zero experience with them)
Im not gonna say one way or the other what is Safe to do or Not because there's A-LOT of DUMP People out there and that's why they say to Remove the Load as You described.
It is Legal where I come from to have a MLer in your Vehicle Loaded as Long as the Primer, Cap, or Pan Powder is NOT in it. If there was any chance of it going off with OUT that stuff in it then I bet it would'nt be Legal. Now I quess if you got in an Accident (GOD FORBID) and you had your MLer in your Vehicle and it caught Fire, then Yea there could be a Problem.
But in Most of the Mler's I have once you unscrew the Breech Plug the Pellets just Fall Out, it's Not Like Im Pounding on them with the Ram Rod to remove them, they just Fall Out, I have No Fear in doing it this way. But to Cover tha Manufactures A$$ES they say to do it that way just because ya never know what not so Smart Person may do.
Once I remove the BP and the Pellets Fall Out I feel 100% Safe, NOW in NON REMOVEABLE Breech MLers, YES, I would never Try this unless I Soaked the Barrel In Water befor I tried to remove the Charge.
