Lithium batteries stand up better in cold weather.
As PastorJim08 suggested trying rechargeables, I agree with him on this. My only suggestion is do not use Energizer rechargeables as they are 1.2 volt on the package. Testing these with a digital meter they will vary from 1.2 to 1.28 volt. Using a good charger, they can be bumped up to 1.38 to 1.44 volt. These are a slow drain battery. Once a battery gets down to 1.0 to 1.2 volt, the camera will not function properly, or not at all. I have tried these, but have switched over to Pure Energy rechargeables which are available at most WalMarts. The Pure Energy list at 1.5 volt on the package and testing most are 1.55 volt and can be bumped up to 1.6 plus volt.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
