Default Good Times in Virginia

I went down to our lease in SW Virginia for the second week of muzzloloader season and the opening few days of modern firearms season. I didn't see that many does as normally but it seem that the big does where locked up with bucks. I did see some chasing going on but with the weather being warm I only saw smaller bucks chasing the does during daylight hours. With all that said, we had one of our best seasons on our farm, so far 9 bucks have been harvested with 6 of them being 7 points or better. The biggest so far being a 228 lb 11 pointer that the gross green score is 152 4/8. My buck was an 8 pointer shot just after legal shooting light on the opening day of rifle in a corn field. The 11 pointer was shot on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at 2:20pm bedded down with a doe in a wide open cut corn field. We couldn't believe they were just laying down in the wide open but my buddy and I were able to put a stalk on them based on the contour of the land. The 7 and 8 pointer were taken by father and son on opening day of muzzleloader and the father shot the 9 pointer on the second saturday of muzzleloader. I did see 6 other smaller bucks while hunting and there have been a 4, 6, 8, and 9 pointers harvested on the same farm.

We also were able to hunt another farm with several does taken and a 5 1/2 yr old 9 pointer and a 6 pointer was taken from. The 6 pointer was the youngsters first buck taken.
