Corey, If you have the cash - a decent straight 4x scope is all you need. The fixed powers seem to hold up a little better than the variables IMO. Another good option is a shotgun scope. I have one on my little Marlin Guide Gun .45-70 and on my Knight inline. They are both 1.75 - 4X with the circle/crosshair. That reticle is great for fast target acquisition and the crosshair is fine enough for 100 yd work. I picked both of them up off of Ebay for <$50
