RE: new hunter!
There are lots of tricks, scents, gadgets, gizmos, and stuff that people will talk about using, but no matter what you do, remember the basics, and keep it simple until you get these down.
Be as undetectable as you can.
You have to fool the woods into thinking you' re not there. That means everything -deer, birds, racoons, etc. Animals can alert each other. Wear good silent camo, be quiet, and move as little as you can stand.
Practice
Know your weapon intimately.
Find ammo it likes (arrows or bullets).
Practice with it as often as practical.
Don' t settle for a mediocre grouping.
Educate yourself.
Read everything about deer, an learn to think like one.
Get topo maps of your area and study them.
Ask questions like this, and talk to other hunters.
Experience is the best teacher, and until you have some more of your own, use theirs.
Scout, scout, scout
Always be watching your hunting grounds for clues.
In the off-season you can get in deep and see hidden things.
While hunting, although you won' t be as free to move without disturbing the game you are pursuing, you can always gain some info.
Never think you know it all.
Try to learn something everytime you go out.
Good luck!
