I believe Lemoyne and Muley are correct. Maybe the spirit of ML hunting is getting lost but in any event we should all stick together regardless of what our choice is.
Here in PA, we still have what is designated a primitive season which opens up the day after Christmas and runs thru most of January. Regs are flintlock ignition only, bore .44 cal or larger, and open (buckhorn type) sights. There is an early ML season in Mid-October (tomorrow actually) where you can use any type ML with a .44 cal or larger bore or a ML pistol of .50 or larger.
I personally enjoy the primitive season. You rarely see any other hunters. Probably because the weather is cold, lots of snow sometimes and biting winds.
And honestly I believe some of the states have allowed the use of these MLs just to reduce the herds. What I do get a kick out of is areas where you can only use a ML or shotgun? Well Duh, One of the modern inlines or slug guns have quite an effective range as compared to the older trad. MLs and your std everyday shotgun shooting slugs.
