Default A traditional style rifle with a twist

Today I wanted to get my Renegade set up for the hunting season. I put a stainless steel Green Mountain Barrel on it. The Green Mountain Barrel is the Long Range Hunter model. It has a 1-28 twist. Since my shots will be close where I hunt, I only set the target out at 50 yards.

My usual sabot load for the rifle is a 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB in a supplied MMP HPH 24 sabot. Normally I shoot them with 85 grains of Pyrodex P, but today I was using Graf's & sons 2f black powder to see if it made a difference.

Shots 1& 2 were fine, #3 I must have flinched or something. Maybe I didn't swab right. Who knows. Normally it stacks these bullets. Since I have a limited supply of them I decided three was enough. The rifle will be ready to hunt. The next bullet I tried were some a friend gave me. They are Precision Rifle's Extreme 300 grain all lead bullet. Since these normally like a good powder charge, I changed powders. I kicked the charge up to 110 grains of Pyrodex P. I want to try the rest of them with simple Goex 2f and about 90 grains, and I think they will start to behave better.

Then I swabbed the barrel clean and loaded 75 grains of Pyrodex P. I did swab between shots except for the one low hit. That was on a fouled bore. Strange it dumped it like that.

The group was pretty good, so adjusted my POA and raised up a little to see if I could sneak some in. And sure enough, the rifle held true. This is probably what I will load when I hunt the marsh. As I like to hit with a large chunk of lead and plant the deer fast, so they don't run off into the tangle.

I should add.. I was swabbing with isopropyl alcohol, and the rifle has a 4x32mm Simmons Pro Diamond scope on it. All shooting was done off a bench rest at 50 yards.
