i sized down the bullets from there main size to .451 then after the patch was put on .454 sizer.

I must be mixed up I thought you were working on a 50.
The dark rings are from lead in the sizer. I don't worry about them for the most part. After a few bullets it goes away. I am not familiar with the tape. I know tracing paper works well for some guys. If you can find 9# onion skin that works great.
