You, plus a guide + each with side arms -I'd expect you (both) to be okay..............even in bear country.

If I was hunting by myself, I'd want more gun then a 7MM WSM/WM.......where Grizz lives anyway but for black bears, I'd feel well gunned.

Lastly, nothing wrong with carrying a mountain rifle in .300 WM/WSM.
