Dilema: Accidental Woody Kills During Teal Season
Early teal just ended here and I have been talking to a few hunters who accidentally shot woodies during their teal hunt. There was a couple accidental shoots in some of the groups I hunted with also. It's easy to misidentify a woody hen as a teal when its coming in fast on a cloudy morning or coming in with a group of teal.
Here in Kansas we get teal and wood duck migrating in at the same time so it becomes easy to shoot the wrong duck.
What are your thoughts: KDWP has a limit of 4 teal per day.. I am wondering if it would be better for hunter and bird if they did a wood duck/teal season but maintain the 4 bird limit with either or... Or 5 bird limit with only 2 woodies allowed.
I know just about every one out there has hit the wrong bird at one point in time or another. I just want to know what people think about this certain situation and possible solution. I speak for a lot of people who make a bad shoot and have to leave their bird on the ground.
