Well, it finally happened. I broke in my CVA 50 cal. with a big body 8 point buck in Sarasota. Last year I saw several bucks, but for various reasons I couldn't take any of them. This year, 3 hours into my first hunt I smoked this big boy at about 50 yards in a flooded pasture. Props to my buddy Chris for taking me to his ranch in the first place & to my other buddy Chris for driving his new 4WD Jeep DEEP into swamp to retrieve this deer and save me LOTS of dragging. Most deer we kill in Sarasota fill 1 cooler, but this buck filled 2, so I'm guessing it's 175 or 180 lbs. The rack was pretty symmetrical, but the right front tine was broken off at the tip. I'm doing a European mount & looking for a place to tan the hide. What a way to start the season! Next week is Archery up in Chaz & then we'll work our way into General Gun. Hunting season is the BEST season of the year...
