Im not a big Savage fan either but they are strong and easy to swap barrels. Ive hardly shot mine and almost entirely with a 325gr FTX. It loves that load and the extra weight makes it tolerable.

They are however a easy way to get into a 45cal SML with the least amount of smith work but it makes them even heavier. The Rem conversions are the rage now and Savage conversions are selling at fair prices atm. I certainly wont lose any money on this deal and i dont have to wait 8-14 weeks for a barrel. I also want to try some heavy BH209 sabotless loads but i want to try it in a barrel that has been tested to at least 3 times the potential PSI. Pacnor 45s made for Dougs board are rated at 120K PSI or higher.

The deal has been agreed to by the seller and i should get it next week.

You really should look into the SMI option for yours. They use a Douglas barrel which i prefer (so far) and if you don't mind waiting you can get other twists. They stock at least 1-32 and 1-36 barrels for under $500 and are the fastest way to get a conversion. Converting a 45/70 barrel is even faster but those are usually a 1-20 twist. Most of those reviews are very positive and you can still shoot BH209 very reliably. I think Slufoot on Dougs board also convert the 45/70s with a Savage breach plug and his work is great for $150.
