Congrats on getting drawn for the moose permit bowedark. Which District did you get drawn for? You're in for a fun hunt and hopefully some great tablefare.

The cows dressed out weights probably average 400-500 lbs and the bulls 125lbs larger than the cows. Figure about 45% meat yield. Moose meat is wickedly lean so your butcher will probably recommend adding beef or pork fat or possibly fatty cuts of beef or pork to the burger blend. Try to get hooked up with a butcher that offers vacuum packaging as opposed to plastic/paper wrap. (lasts longer in the freezer).

So in other words, you're likely to have 250-350lbs of meat (and that # could be a lot bigger).

Best price I found this summer was Fedex overnight. I think it ran about $3.50/lb. Alaska to Maine. One other alternative is taking a couple of 50 lb coolers (the 48 qt coolers) back on the plane with you as checked baggage and just shipping your clothes and gear back via the USPS (about $1 /lb). Ship the rest of your moose via Fedex.

Are you going guided or DIY? If do-it-yourself, I may have some suggestions for you.

Good Luck!
